Trangallan Tapas Restaurant Newington Green
Restaurant Review: Trangallan Tapas Restaurant. Before the Christmas I had the pleasure of dining at this bohemian gastro cultural spot in Newington Green. They serve rustic and flavour packed dishes which are a cut above the usual tapas offerings. If you’re looking for tapas restaurants in North London, places to eat in Newington Green or Spanish food in Stoke Newington then you must book at a table at the Trangallan Tapas Restaurant.

The menu changes frequently and offers something different from the standard tapas. On our visit, the selection included a bread basket with Rioja Arbequina olive oil and Manzanilla olives which will get you off to a good start as you peruse the menu. We shared a couple of plates including the Tetilla cheese which is a cow’s cheese made in Galicia North Western Spain. It was served in a big chunk along with bread and a chutney which may have been quince, sorry my memory is a bit blurry.
We also shared the sprouting broccoli with anchovy emulsion and bergamot puree. This was delicious and they kindly put the anchovy emulsion on the side so I could eat it. The other dish was beetroot with red dulse salad, lovage and pine puree. What a lovely taste and presentation. I’m not a fan of big chunks of beetroot but on this occasion, I was smitten.

We all choose a larger plate to eat solo. I opted for Judion which is a butter bean and piparras dish. This was very hearty and rustic, perfect for the wintery night. Meanwhile Homeboy enjoyed his octopus with cachelos, cauliflower and allada. Wow, this looked stunning and the tasted superb. My friend tucked into a lentil stew with oxtail which was full of flavour and filling.

Other dishes included traditional tortilla, charcuterie board, semi-cured mackerel, pan fried tuna and Iberian pork secreto. Although the menu was concise, it offered enough choice to satisfy meat eaters, fish fans and vegetarians. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a rustic delicious meal with foodie friends or your lover. I’m glad we ordered dessert which is a tapas selection so you get three to share. This comprised of a ganache chocolate with olive oil and sea salt. A Crème caramel flan and yoghurt with quince. The perfect way to end a splendid meal! They also have an interesting wine list so you’ll be well looked after. To give you the idea of price points the charcuterie board is £12.50, smaller plates are £5.50-7.50 and larger dishes are £9-15.
Trangallan Tapas Restaurant Interiors
Housed inside a former shop, the interiors are homely and welcoming. Outside you will find a few tables and chairs underneath a stripy awning which is perfect for a balmy summer night. Venture inside and it’s an enchanting space filled with vintage furniture. Rustic ladders lean against walls and reclaimed wooden doors are hung behind the bar. Downstairs you’ll find more seating and a place for entertainment.
